Unit 19-Learning aim c

Introduction-

I'm not 100% sure what my story will be about however I do have some features and ideas of how I want it to be, I want a strong storyline and will be going for a silent film that will have more acting and short and no dialogues I also will be aiming for a deep meaning or like a reality of life kind of theme.

Primary research:

According to my survey I've got the genre of thriller with the most votes. Thriller isn't something I enjoy very much, in fact I was thinking to go for the complete opposite for the short film, however with this many votes I will need to have a bit of thriller in my short film. Many people are above 20 in my survey so I will be aiming for a more interesting film also as most of the people like the aesthetic of 90’s. There was a mix range of time length people voted for,3 votes for 7- and 8-mins length,2 votes for 6 mins and 1 vote for 5 mins. This will give me an idea of the time length I should do as what time length people usually watch. I will keep it all balanced however will keep it interesting and fun to watch. As many people have different likes and dislikes of how a movie ends this will be difficult for me as all people in my survey like different endings.3 people like happy ending,4 people like cliff hanger and 2 people like tragedy.

I was thinking of going to a silent film with a lot of acting so we know what was happening. This film isn't the very best but it sure is like a film I would want to write however similar type. I love how it starts with a book opening where the guy writes “Why life” and then looks up and we get a flashback where he has 2 coffee cups but there's only one of him. This suggests there was someone else he was expecting but it's gone now. We see him sitting impatiently waiting and panicking because the person isn't coming. He keeps checking his phone and then panicking more and calling. The there's a closeup shot of his face and his emotions of how he is breaking so much and crying. When we get a view of the ring, he is holding it. We understand that he was waiting for a girl. The director focuses on his hands shaking as he is holding the ring showing us the panic and anxiety. Of losing someone. To show more emotions the camera has zoomed to, and we see him panicking more and this is the part where we see him losing hope or waiting. This then continues to the same thing, and we get a shot of him looking down from a roof and he jumps off. Like 2 seconds after we get a shot of the phone where someone calls him.

My personal feedback for this shot film is that it's too on the same shot, like it is focusing on something for long there isn't a lot of information. I will go for a short film that is silent but has deep meaning

Secondary research:

First think of a genre and theme of what you want your short film to be so you can base your ideas around that. The script for your short film is the most critical item to do right, but it is all too often overlooked. You can have all the best equipment, cast fantastic actors, and thoroughly study locations, but if you put some devotion into your script from the beginning, things will be a lot easier down the road. Keep it basic and write a story that can be told in under 5 minutes. Consider your characters' desires, look at some samples of scripts you like and how they construct a story, and remember that less is absolutely more when it comes to conversation.

My idea of short film is a silent movie with more acting and camera shots. To insure I have a good film I need to write out the script thoroughly so it's clearer. According to my script I need to manage the equipment. Performers who tell the story with their body, emoting with gestures and looks, are more significant than actors who speak. You may cast actors that excel in physical humor or even dancers. The easiest way to brainstorm for ideas is by gathering events from your own life.

The best thing to do for a film planning is to make a storyboard. This is because creating a storyboard gives you a visual representation of what you want and shows your team what exactly you want to see in the end. It helps you create a film that is more producible, you can either draw it or make it digitally. To have a good script you need to keep reading back so you know it makes sense. You should ask yourself questions while composing the script. What is the name of this character? What do they want? (or characters) What method will they use to obtain it? What happens if they don't follow through? You should also have stage directions for a decent script so that when you're filming, you know what shot and camera angle you'll need for a scene.

As a consequence of my survey results, I now have a better concept of what I want to do. I'm considering a thriller from the 90s. There will be sound effects and natural sounds, but no dialogue, as some of my voter's dislike silent movies.
